Why support Apple Hill?

When you donate to Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, you make it possible for Apple Hill to welcome intergenerational students and faculty from disparate cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and political backgrounds to learn and grow together in ways that are generally not possible. Through chamber music and our rural, natural setting in southwestern New Hampshire, Apple Hill participants transform as musicians, people, listeners and leaders, forming lifelong bonds that span generations and break down barriers along the way.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Apple Hill awarded nearly $340,000 in scholarships to domestic and international music students this year (70% of our Summer Chamber Music Workshop participants), despite the rising costs required to maintain 41 buildings on 100 acres of hills and forest, and conduct our 55th annual Summer Chamber Music Workshop.

Your investment in Apple Hill is a catalyst for professional and amateur musicians of all backgrounds, ages and playing abilities to come together during a time of growing need for connection and humanity, and to take those experiences of collaboration, joy, hope and possibility back out into the world.

Your gift also supports working artists and accessible, year-round Apple Hill String Quartet chamber music performances described as “dashing and extraordinary” by The Strad Magazine. Our Artistic Directors and resident musicians present world-class concerts in Nelson, regionally, domestically and around the globe; recent tours include Cuba and Cyprus. The Quartet’s year-round work also includes conducting music workshops and masterclasses in schools, providing student coaching sessions, performing education-centered community concerts for those who don’t have access to live chamber music, and recording at studios like WGBH in Boston.

Our friends, supporters, partners, staff, community, guest artists, board, participants, volunteers and alumni receive inestimable value through your support. In the words of recent Apple Hill Trustee and alumna Reem Abu Rahmeh, “The urgency of a mission that is centered on inclusion, community connection, and acceptance is not one to ignore in our current times.”

With profound gratitude,

Kristina Gulla
Director of Development

The thing that I truly love about Apple Hill is the sense of community it creates and their commitment to the goal of accessibility…I spent the whole time thinking about people in my community, peers and students of mine, who would benefit from such a caring and supportive space. I reflected on how despite the vulnerability of performance and the diversity in age, there was such a wealth of connection and care to be found. Apple Hill is truly a special place…thank you from the deepest parts of my heart for helping me on my journey there.

Gerdlie Jean Louis, 2026 Summer Chamber Music Workshop participant

Bequests that allow your gift to be put toward a project of greatest need at the time it is received are particularly welcome.

To leave a gift in your will, simply share this sentence with your attorney or financial planner:

I bequeath $ _____ or % _____ of my estate to Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Nelson New Hampshire.

Provisions to an existing will may be added by codicil.

Once you complete your estate plans, please let us know so that we may thank you for your generosity by including you in Apple Hill for the Ages.

Here’s why one donor was inspired to leave a legacy to Apple Hill:

There are two reasons I support Apple Hill. The main reason is that my late husband, Steve Rosenthal, loved going to Apple Hill. Steve was on the Board of Trustees for many years and went to the Summer Chamber Music Workshop from 2003-2013. He just loved it. He introduced me to Apple Hill, and when he died unexpectedly and tragically in 2014, I reached out to Apple Hill Director Lenny Matczynski because I wanted to do something to honor Steve. The second reason is that I now have a new husband, who has spent every summer of life in Peterborough, NH. His family is from the area so I’m introducing them to Apple Hill.
